Steenhuisen Explains Why the DA will be opposing the IEC’s application to have elections postponed

According to the DA a bad precedent will be set if the Constitutional Court allows the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) application to postpone the local government elections to next year.

In an Interview with  News24 on Sunday, the party’s leader, John Steenhuisen, said the biggest problem was that the IEC was too desperate to have the elections postponed.

Steenhuisen said: “I sincerely hope the court is going to express itself on the IEC. They only have one job in South Africa, and that’s to ensure free and fair elections that are regular, in which voters are allowed to express themselves.
